First developed in the 1920’s to protect aluminium parts from corrosion, anodising is an electrolytic passivation process which increases the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of the material. Over the years the process has been developed, and the use of dyes allows the array of colours now available.
Our range of bronze anodised finishes is comprehensive, and a fantastic option.
Whilst any aluminium can be anodised to create the protective layer, some grades are more receptive than others, which is why we only use anodising grades of sheet and extrusion during manufacture.
It is also the case that any imperfections in the material, such as surface scratches, will be highlighted during the anodizing process. Welded areas will often show up in different shades to non-welded areas, which is why we would not recommend this finish for heavily fabricated items.
