TEAM
James Bell – Managing Director
Starting in the metal industry at age 17, James decided to start Ultimet in 1997. He remains fully committed to the company and, together with the rest of the management team, is always looking for ways to develop and improve the customer experience. His core belief is that if you consistently provide the very best level of quality and service, customers will always want to return. For this reason, many customers that started with Ultimet 20 years ago remain with us today. Married with 3 children, James has often said that he comes to the factory to escape the noise!!

Gary Webb – Production and Technical Director
Gary joined the Ultimet team as General Manager in January 2015, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge. Whilst he has been busy building up our capacity and skills on the inside, our customers know they can always bring their manufacturing and technical issues to him and get a great result. Gary has an absolute determination to get the job done, and regularly rolls up his sleeves and goes down on the shop floor to make sure deadlines are met.
Gary is a keen motorcyclist and, to prove this, he has now sold his Harley Davidson and purchased a proper bike.

Paul Dolling – Projects Director
Having come in to the metal industry aged 16, Paul started at a company called Major Metals. This company was owned by James’ father, and is where Paul and James met. They later worked together again at a different company and became good friends. Paul then left the industry and enjoyed a successful career in the Police, before leaving to re-join the world of metal, primarily dealing with project management and site installations. Paul has now brought his skills to Ultimet, to concentrate on projects and business development.

David Hale - Project & technical manager
Dave joined us from Stewart Fraser in August 2018. With over 30 years of experience in the UK construction industry, Dave has specialised in structural glazing, curtain walling, entrances and aluminium shop fitting. With fantastic technical knowledge, combined with both management and interpersonal skills, Dave ensures a client focused, results driven approach to every project. Outside work, Dave very much enjoys cycling and is apparently a member of many of his local gyms - though staff at the gyms seemed surprised to hear this.

Paul Cadwallader – QuESH and I.T manager
Paul started with Ultimet in 2015, bringing with him some considerable acquired knowledge regarding metalworking procedures, quality management and I.T skills. He quickly put these to work at Ultimet, upgrading our computer system, installing latest sales software and implementing new manufacturing quality procedures. He has already established full CE procedures, and organised our registration. His current project is developing our health and safety, and is working on our BS OHSAS 18001 registration.

Steve Chinn - Draughtsman
Having completed his apprenticeship at Chatham Dockyard, Steve then spent the following 25+ years in fabrication design. Whilst his initial draughting experience was on drawing boards, Steve transitioned to CAD in the early 80's.
Looking for a change, Steve took a 10 year break from the drawing board to work supporting young people in care, before ultimately deciding on a return to engineering.
Outside of work, Steve is a regular kayaker and paddle-boarder, and also volunteers at his local community centre.

Mick Donovan - Senior Estimator
Mick started his apprenticeship as an architectural metalworker in 1962, since when, in over 56 years of continuous working, he has worked as designer, estimator, director and owner. We firmly believe that Mick is probably the most experienced all-round architectural metalworker in the UK, and his association with James goes back around 30 years.
During his time in the industry Mick has been involved in numerous prestigious projects, with most (if not all) of Britain's man contractors. Fortunately for us, Mick is in no mood to fully retire and continues to enjoy working with Ultimet - albeit that he now does so on a part time basis - and we continue to benefit from his wealth of knowledge.
When asked what he enjoys most about his job these days, Mick replied that he really likes going to site meetings because he is always the oldest in the room and someone always finds him a seat.

After completing her degree, Michelle worked as Operations and Financial Manager for a specialist food importer, supplying niche and high-end retailers
throughout London
.
Since then Michelle has spent 25 years applying her knowledge and experience within small and medium sized businesses, allowing them to better understand
their accounts and control their finances.
Michelle joined the team at Ultimet in 2017, but as yet has no inclination to ride a motorbike, wisely preferring the comfort of her dry and air-conditioned car.
